rsks Shri Raghunath Kirti Campus, Central Sanskrit University (formerly Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Deemed to be University) was established on 16th June, 2016, at Devaprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, by a Parliamentary act under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The Campus is named after the famous deity ShriRaghunathajiwhose Shrine in the ancient Raghunatha Temple, was constructed in the style of Katyuri Dynasty of the Mountains, near the holy confluence of the two important mythological rivers, Bhāgirathi and Alaknandā, where the river Gaṅgā is believed to be originated.

Uttarakhand is culturally and popularly known as Devabhūmi or Divine Land as it is not only adorned with one of the famous Jyotirmaṭhas called ShriBadrinātha, but also with one of the twelve Jyotirliṇgas, namely, ShriKedārnāth. Gaṅgā and Yamunā, the two Vedic, mythological rivers originate in the Devatamā (Divine Soul) Himālaya of Uttarakhand. According to Kedarkhaṇḍa of the SkandaPurāṇa, the name Devaprāyag came about, due to the severe penance, sage Shri Deva Sharma underwent in this auspicious place. It is one of the PañchaPrayāga where rivers Alaknandā& Bhāgirathi meet and become river Gaṅgā. The city of Devaprayag is surrounded by three mountain series namely, Griddhanchala, Dasharathanchala and Nrisimhanchala, the latter of which was famous as the Centre for Learning in the state of Uttarakhand, earning it the name of Vidyakṣetram. Uttarakhand is the only state in India where Sanskrit is the official Second Language.
